No. Sometimes the would-be orthodox get carried away with their rhetoric, but when they know you and know that you're sincere, they tend to exempt you from the criticism, or to tone it down, or something. Their aggresive approach becomes more passive-aggressive. I'm pretty low profile and demands for orthodoxy don't come up that often in Primary. There's also something about knowing "that guy," knowing his family, commitment, and struggles that takes the wind out of most would-be hardliners sails.

I was once asked not to comment in EQ by a fellow who was way out of line. I was glad to recieve a call to serve in the primary shortly thereafter. I have served happily in the nursery and primary for four years now.

Mormons like me get into trouble when they either stop being orthoprax (keeping their covenants and performing in their callings responsibly) and/or start publically grandstanding about the inadequate character of GAs and local leaders (and in a few instances, about doctrines that the orthodox deem "sensitive.") The margin for error is narrower at BYU of course, and I probably wouldn't work at BYU-I.

Change your name already. Serving In Primary would be more appropriate.

I've got to admit that I do a belly laugh every time Indy runs this kind of smack. It's like a 500 lb. slob going into a Denny's and lecturing people for not eating enough. Such irony.

There's a good chance that I'll be darkening the door of Elder's Quorum in the Fall.

No more ironic than a 500 lb slob demanding a new scale because he doesn't like the fact that it says he weighs 500 lbs, I suppose.

I pretty much agree with all of this.

Are you still obsessing over that survey thing?

This is a good summary.

The part where I have difficulty is listening to articulations of principle and having to bite my tongue when I vigorously disagree with how that person is expressing the "Church" position.

It discourages me that the strident ones are the ones who discourage those who want to fulfill their covenants, serve without notice and keep their heads down. In the end, I just need to keep quiet, work hard and seek to keep out of the limelight.

Excellent suggestion.

Or I could just stick with the tried and true "dickhead". Why obfuscate, eh?
