They also had one kid with perfect SATs and announced Newsweek had selected the high school as a top public high school. I suppose every high school gets that so nobody feels badly.

Inmy son's graduating class of two nights ago there were co-valedictorians. They usually pick a ingle one but both young women had received nothing but As throughout HS and both had taken the same number of honros courses and both ended up with GPAs of around 4.8. Unless there is a tie, the school only picks one. Neither of them are going to BYU. One of them is going to a UC school on a water polo scholarship and the other I don't know. THe intersting thing to me is that the two smartest kids I know at the school were NOT valedictorians, althought one is going to Cal as a Regents scholar (and that is very impressive) and the other is going to study biomedical engineering at MIT on a full scholarship (in fact, she had to choose between Johns Hopkins' biomed program, which she said was the top program, and MIT which is only in the top 5, and they bid against each other for her uintil MIT won by offering the best package; hard to believe). SO being Valedictorian ain't all that.

Is there no longer a salutatorian in high school classes?
Way back when I graduated high school, my class of 500 or so, had one (1) valedictorian. The next highest academically ranked student (notice that it is singular) was the salutatorian. Her prize? She had to give the salutatory address to the audience at the boring graduation ceremonies.
