Well, to be fair, he didn't unambiguously state it, and he certainyl did nto say that he has not since seen him, but he did say, as was noted earlier inthe thread, that the testimony and the basis for it that he had before becmoing an apostle, was sufficient to be an apostle. I thought this was a pretty straightforward point.

I just finished watching Packer's talk, and I disagree. I am not one who believes that all the apostles have seen Jesus Christ, but I think drawing that conclusion from his talk is reaching. Packer simply reiterated a doctrine long already known in the church: that it's the spiritual witness (which is available to all) that matters, not miracles.

1 Ne 3:31, Luke 16:31 illustrate this concept, as does the remarkable change in the apostles post-Pentecost. I remember a related doctrine taught by Elder Faust, speaking of his short Patriarchal Blessing (3/4 of a page). Said he: "it has been completely adequate and perfect for me."

From none of this can one draw the conclusion, IMO, that an apostle does not receive a Messianic visitation; only that such a visitation does not supplant the special witness borne of the Spirit.

My point wasn't that an Apostle doesn't receive a Messianic visitation, only that it isn't required for the office nor is it the meaning of "special witness". I'm sure we both agree that it was an excellent talk.

It's tough being one of the few lone voices of reason, but I do it gladly.
