I think it closed down in the late nineties. I sowed many a wild oat there, running around Winchell's after closing at Taco Bell, which was my first (and best) job.

Same here. I spent many a Sunday School at that very Winchell's during my "rebellious teen years". That and The Philadelphian.

It was a 24 hour joint IIRC. Had quite a few late night/early morning Winchell's stops while living at Helaman Halls.

I dropped by that place many a time around 2 am. Get rid of the girl and go grab a donut.

I remember going to the midnight movie up on Bulldog Street at the movie theater that no longer exists and then going over to Winchell's which would just be pulling out their apple fritters from the cooker.

Winchells is pretty good, but the best donuts (and it aint even close) in the SL Valley are at Banbury Cross (7th East and 7th South). They are fabulous and have contributed nicely to my waistline (though I still have kept my sexiness).

There are still a handful of Winchell's sprinkled (pun intended) across the LV valley. I, too, have fond memories of Winchell's, as that is where my non-WOW-obeying grandmother would take me when she needed her afternoon coffee fix.
