We usually just don't incorporate the extremes. The time lag seems to filter out the extremes.

We have had a lot of young professional couples in our ward. But it is always the man who is the professional, and not the wife.

There are two couples, with no children, where the wife is a professional (accountant and speech therapist).

But none with children that I know of.

Isn't the speech therapist pregnant and due soon? Will she continue to work?

My sister in law is going back to school to get a nursing degree. Why she wants to do that I personally can't understand. She has a degree and worked for AT& T before she met and married my brother. She still has kids at home.

However, there are plenty of really straight by the book members in my family, but I haven't heard one of them indicate they think she shouldn't be doing this. I will bet though there are a few in the ward who think she shouldn't be. They would probably like to quote President Benson to her. However, knowing her I think they would be better off just thinking it and not saying anything to her.

What's wrong with a nursing degree? I hear nursing is red hot right now and is expected to stay that way for quite some time.

Professional women are less likely to have children. Don't you think?

The culture needs to change, and I imagine those who don't attend BYU are more likely to be trend setters than those emanating from BYU.

As I mentally survey my clientele, I'm not even certain what the culture and lifestyle of professional men and women is.

I think it is a great career and a career where you are actually providing a much needed service too. What I meant is I don't understand going back to school. It would be to tough for me to do.

She obviously has some better character traits than I do. I think part of why she wants to do it is to be a service.

Here's the kicker: if you want your daughter to really be serious about education and careers, don't send her to BYU. I think the evidence argues strongly for this.

I would agree in most respects. However, my first daughter is not serious about education, and I sent her to become more serious. My second daughter is more educationally oriented and we will consider BYU along with other good western institutions.

My sons will likely attend BYU, AFA or Stanford.
