sorry, cj, I guess I'm supposed to congratulate Bronco.
Lack of speed was part of it. You don't think that UCLA and Arizona had fast WRs? Give me a break. When I see Nixon and Bolden (sp?) trailing a guy 35 yards down the field, with no safety help, I know that we are getting beat by the guy sitting upstairs. In games we have won, we have been able to do so without being exposed for lack of speed. But in the game Bronco was simply outcoached. The scheme was not deceptive, and the guys were on their heels the entire game. |

we have one very good LB. And we have two good LB. I think Kehl will play at the next level. Nixon and Poppinga won't IMO. I'm actually disappointed with Nixon's play this year. I was expecting him to be a bit more dominant. Maybe his injury/surgery is an issue.

when you think about it, Tulsa won the exact same way we used to win. We outschemed, we created mismatches, we had the secondary's heads spinning. We had a poor defense, and gave up a lot of points, but made enough stuff happen to win. We gave up huge returns on kickoffs. We didn't have much of a run game, but we did run to keep them honest.
Tulsa has a pretty innovative offense, just like our offense was at one time innovative. BYU just got beat by Neo-BYU. |

Very disappointed in Gooch. He should know better than that. He got his ass handed to him last night. But here is something that I struggle with... if the team you are playing with brings out 3-4 fast WRs, and you are insistent upon staying in your base 3-4 defense, you are gonna get burnt. Kehl is fast, and may be a legit 4.5 guy, but when he goes up against a shifty WR that is a legit 4.3 guy, he's gonna get beat. And if Kehl can't handle a WR like that, no other LB BYU puts on the field is going to. Bronco and Anae both preach execution in their schemes, which are solid. But the problem is, if everybody doesn't come to play and executes, you're gonna get beat. Last night, we didn't come to play, and we got our asses beat. |
