According to whom? Socialists?

I'm a capitalist. Let the market decide, not the government.

Ok. Free market prostitution.

Still, socialism is not necessary for democracy.

I do find it amusing that the "small government," "free market" people are generally the ones that wouldn't even consider discontinuing the failing war on drugs/prostitution. The money saved/earned just by legalizing marijuana would pay for universal health care with a bunch to spare.

why not? haves exert more influence on the system than have-nots. that's undemocratic.

It's also a truism that the "disaster of the commons" effect forces governmental intervention in certain cases. I wish the government wouldn't get as involved, and lean libertarian on many issues; I just think that healthcare should be a basic right. The insurance system in America is an absolute disaster, and because of the amount of money it uselessly sucks out of the system, will make socialized medicine an easier transition once this drain is eliminated.

some, yes, but liberals don't wear their "big government" label like a badge of honor, so it doesn't seem at all inconsistent.

conservatives would say that liberals want government out of your private life, yet they think the government can take your money and give it to someone else.
