i think the color of one's skin plays no roll but other factors do.

Most important of all are that person's own views, own life experiences, and thereafter, that person's upbringing and next community and culture. In that order.

And there's significant overlap with skin color and culture. Sure, it's not the skin color per se that makes the difference, but race or ethnicity is more than a genetic heritage.

I disagree. Because a marriage partner focuses upon an individual, one must focus upon individual characteristics, and the spectrum for all races and ethnic groups are so varied making a prediction based on those is a fool's errand.

Isn't this the affirmative action argument you Republicans use all the time? That we should look at cultural/economic background and specifically NOT skin color. I absolutely agree. Skin color is completely irrelevant in the marriage decision.
Tell me ER, why we do now use the term African American?

And PART of these individual characteristics are shaped by their cultural/racial heritage and don't necessarily make themselves fully manifest during the dating process. Certainly the life cycle of LDS courtship isn't usually long enough to sufficiently expose the suitor to their loved one's family (which often is a big part of a healthy marriage; especially in cultures that place a higher emphasis on extended family) or how their cultural heritage affects expectations and behavior in the home.

Certainly if you have good communication skills and work hard together as a couple you can adequately deal with these differences and compromise when needed, but it's naive to believe they don't add to the laundry list of differences that couples have to work through in order to be successful.

Not really. The main difference is the difference in the genders.

So gender is the only significant variable? You can build a sufficiently robust predictive model just based on gender?

The gender communication differences vary more IMHO than any other differences but you combine the other factors to arrive at a model.

Acknowledging there are differences due to being from different cultural backgrounds, even without ascribing one as superior to the other, amounts to racism?

Someone let me know when Waters is capable of rational thought.
