Can you imagine how many GAs would be on the sofa if they lectured the women too much in GC. They are smarter than that.

They generally wind up with the girl that made them work for her. So the guys go to their Halo parties, hook up with the cute girl down the street later that night without taking her out, and he wasn't required to spend a dime, or waste time listening to her talk about what happened on the last episode of Grey's anatomy...and the girls wonder why he isn't asking them out.
This explanation actually makes a lot of sense. I couldn't imagine an entire campus full of men who would choose video games over women. But I can imagine a campus full of men taking the path of least resistance.

And a pattern starts that they can't get out of. They can't stay away from sex long enough to get married in the temple and they end up hooking up with girls that couldn't go to the temple any way. They know that they should get married in the temple, their family expects them to get married in the temple but they just can't or won't take the steps to get there. Eventually they will find a very lenient bishop and stay away from sex for say three months and get married or marry some non-member.

My friend says that women don't pursue, we present men with an opportunity to pursue. If it comes down to it, and we're pretty well convinced the guy is interested, but isn't asking, then we're allowed one opportunity to invite them with us to a ticketed event. If they can't pick up the pace and start asking after that they're either not interested after all, or too feminine and we don't want those men anyway.
I pursued danimal. If I want something, I go get it. I am not the kind of person that likes to wait around.

BDB hit on something interesting that I find very true. The "hook up" more than anything in recent years has ruined dating. I was one of those guys. I could go boarding as much as I wanted, play Halo with the boys, and still get mine if you know what I mean. As much as everyone jokes about NCMO, I think it has led to a decline in the approach to having a mature committed relationship.

It's always been this way, since the dawn of man.

I too was just speaking about this to a friend...and am amazed at how the young men at BYU would rather play video games than go out with a cutie.

I guess all the talks at General priesthood meeting are spot on...
It's because the higher admission standards get at BYU, the higher the % of geeks and nerds. Even back in the 90s when I was there, the geeks and nerds were overtaking the place. I can't imagine what it's like now. It's also a reflection of the rising generation of gamer dorks, that would rather play a football video game, than go outside and throw the ball around with their buddies.

Being on BYU campus in the mid-90's was the only time I ever felt like a stud. And I have never been accused of being extraordinarily masculine. Pretty slim pickings for the ladies if you were interested in a lad with testicular fortitude in those days.
