Are you talking about the contractual allowances? That's a discount sort of like the discount you get in most persian rug stores. Hurry, get it now becasue they're going out of business.

Most hospitals have a huge war chest of cash they are sitting on. They use that for capital expenditures. A well run hospital will have a operating margin of around 2%

Net Income figures in outside investments and donations. Operating Margin figures just what your company is in business to do

non-profit hospitals are required to donate a certain percentage of healthcare gratis, from what I understand.
