There is quite a gap between 6, 7, and 9 (8 isn't a real conference). Thus there is the big six, then the MWC, then everyone else. Three tiers of college football. The MWC is alone in the Terrestrial kingdom.

71 if you think BYU gives a crap about $100 CC members you are up in the night. Especially the out of state ones. If you are from out of state for BYU to even care you are alive you need to be able to write a 6 figure check.

15 years ago there was the thought that while we didn't get to play on Jan 1, we would still get a bowl opponent in the top 25 many years (wasn't Iowa around 10 in Detmer's last game?) While we knew we could ever play on Jan 1, there was not a system set up to prevent "mid-majors" and the lesser BCS teams from winning the NC. We could enter each season thinking hey if everything bounced right. And not just us, everyone. Now there are 10-15 teams on the high end that have a chance to play in the one meaningful bowl game. When you make only one game meaningful it makes everything else less meaningful. 15 years ago New Mexico was an important game because if we lost to New Mexico that ruined our season. Now we (fans) are not playing for a conf championship we are playing for the extreme longshot to go undefeated and play the worst possible BCS conf champion in a meaningless bowl game. |
