Blondie is weird and embarrassing
SO due to a minor illness i am at home this morning and am watching the today show whose featured musical guest is Debbie Harry and Blondie. Wow, she should hang it up. Blondie was always about Harry's sex appeal, and she was cute and sexy way back then. Now she has completely, and I mean completely, lost her singing chops (she had little to start with but it is gone, gone, gone). Too much smoking has left her voice about one octave lower than it used to be (think "Heart of Glass" sung by a baritone). Plus, she has this sort of matronly look to her now and its like watching your weird aunt Edna sing "Call me!" which is just wrong on too many levels. Really painful to watch and hear her. I will say her drummer seems not to have changed at all (wrinkles in the face aside) as his staccato style is still the same.

Honestly, I've always thought she was a little weird in a pathetic kind of way. Even back in 81 she scared off Animal. Had to find a backup drummer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UArJpA9wm-w |

I prefer to remember her from the early years of Blondie. Glad I didn't see her today on tv.

I know no one really casres, but one last comment: I recall seeing her perfrom back in about '77 or '78 when Heart of Glass was girst released and she just sort fo stood there and sang vacantly staring without dancing around or anything. At the time I thought "drugs." After watching her this morning, hoiwever, and watching part of the clip posted by Il Pad, I think the real reason she did n't dance is becasue she can't. She appears to have no rhythym in her body at all. Weird.

Yeah, that's totally what it looks like in the link from I posted from the Muppet Show. Like she never learned how to dance but she throws a few wiggles in there just for good measure. It's really kind of painful to watch.

She sounds like Molly Shannon from SNL now.
