Mountain Meadow
Can someone give the quick and dirty of what actually went down?
I've done some research, and it looks like truth and fiction are now interwoven, and the story is becoming more dramatic, and less historic by the day. Has the Church released anything in detail on this? |

120 men, women and children from an Arkansas wagon train were murdered by about 70 to 90 Mormon men led by John D. Lee on or about September 11, 1857. About 17 children under the age of 8 were reared by LDS.
There are disputes about whether BY knew or authorized it, but there are no disputes about the cover-up and initial denial by the Church attributing it to Indians.

Here's wikipedia for the basic details. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mountain_Meadows_massacre There is a reference to MMM in the text for the church history class at BYU and institute. I can't remember how deep it got into it, but my BYU professor presented it fairly in a similar way as it was handled on the documentary. I thought Elder Oaks handled it marvelously, basically offering an apology from the modern church for MMM and any victims that still might have lasting negative effects. |

Didn't see the special. I did read the Wikipedia version and it seemed a bit far fetched in some points.

Hey PAP, I hear there is a new movie coming out that should explain all this to you. "September Dawn" or something like that.

While September Dawn may be a good intro, the reasoning behind MMM is better understood after watching the Larry Sellers visit on Big Lebowski. "THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS..."
