Oh, the fix-it shop. what warmth that brings the soul. the whole snuffy thing irritated me, big bird knowing him, but nobody else, snuffy would always make an early exit. i saw a few episodes with my daughter when she was younger and it seems like the whole group caught onto to snuffy and are believers now. oh, to be a kid again.

* the baker falling down the stairs was pretty cool too.
* the rolling ball machine that grinds it into powder. i remember trying to construct such a machine from things lying around the house. even planned on having the ball go into the blender where i would make it into powder. *ernie answering the kitchen faucet. I guess bert and ernie are gone now, right? * the telephone alien creatures. "cow. yep yep yep yep yep yep yep yep." -what were those guys called? * the magical pencil salesman. i always dreamed of a mr. rogers/sesame street connection, like fred goes for a walk and ends up on sesame street, connecting my lad-hood worlds.

I remember that season with all the "near misses" where the stupid adults ALMOST saw Snuffy. "It's okay Big Bird, lots of people have imaginary friends."
I would get so mad. HE'S NOT IMAGINARY, Bob!! I was so excited when they finally got to meet Snuffy. A monumental day on Sesame Street. Surpassed in importance only by when Mr. Hooper died: Big Bird: [made a picture for Mr. Hooper.] I can't wait 'til he sees it. Maria: Big Bird, we told you. Mr. Hooper died. Big Bird: Oh yeah. I remember... Well, I'll just give it to him when he comes back. Susan: Big Bird, Mr. Hooper's not coming back. Big Bird: Why not?!?! Susan: Big Bird, when people die, they don't come back. Big Bird: Ever?? Susan: No. Never. I know I'm a little odd, but that scene still gives me goosebumps. -- By the way, Brian, you'll be relieved to hear today's kids still have Bert and Ernie and even the "yep yep uh huh" Martians still make occasional appearances. |

For me it's far and away the two aliens that come down.
When they hear a phone ring...they cover their face with their bottom lip. And then imitate the ring..."Brrr,,,rrrrinng!" Same with the radio and television. "RAY-DEE-OH,,,,YEP YEP YEP YEP YEP....UN HUH UN HUH UN HUH"

Not sure I have one now. When I was four years old however, it was big bird. There are countless pictures of me wearing my big bird shirt under a pair of overalls toting around my trusty Winchester lever action.

BTW Gonzo and Dr. Teeth are my favorite Muppets, and who does not love Fozzy? I am not sure if they were on Sesame Street though. |
