Default Huge news for civil libertarians

2d Circuit upholds Constitutional right to bear arms. Unprecedented. The courts have assiduaously shied away from this.

About time. Any honest liberal has to concede that the 2nd ammendment guarantees an individual right. Hate guns? Fine. Lobby to change the constitution. But don't give us some bullcrap reasoning about guaranteeing the right of the states to have national guards. The militia is not the national guard. Like the federal govenment is going to disarm the national guard, which it freaking controls.

(1) Its the District of Columbia Circuit. (2) This is a panel opinion and I predict it will be reversed if it is reheard en banc.

If it is not heard en banc, it has the potential to be one of the main issues in the next presidential campaign since the high court would be hearing it around that time frame. Lets hope for this, it is about time we had a serious discussion about this issue.

Regardless of the outcome of this case, DC's tough gun laws have done zero to make it a safer place.
