Default Anyone else struggle with insomnia?

It's hitting me hard lately...to where I'm not falling asleep or can't fall asleep until around 4 or so in the morning and sometimes I can't sleep at all....as is the case with last night.

Honestly...anyone gone through this and what did you do to beat it? It's driving me crazy.

I used to take melatonin religiously about a half hour, hour before I wanted to get to bed. I know that tests have shown that melatonin usually only works with some degree of success with people suffering from jet lag and not insomniacs. But even if it was just a placebo it seemed to work for me. A few tylenol pm's chased by a healthy dose of nyquil seems to help also.

Isn't it the worst? It's 5:47 here. You might think I like to get up early, but no, I'm just still awake.

I agree with Surf: Melatonin helps sometimes. The liquid version absorbs faster. If you don't need to wake up anytime the next day you can take a bunch of benadryl.

I've been a "night owl" all my life. I've never found anything to make me sleepy. In fact, I can take an OTC commercial sleep aid (like something with diphenhydramine in it) and stay awake right through the night.

I find that the more I exercise, the better I sleep. I find that my periods of insomnia have some correlation to times when I'm exercising less frequently.
Also, I try and avoid MSG like the plauge. I think that when I eat MSG it's as good as taking No-Doze. Other than that, I feel for you buddy but I don't have any good recommendations.

I agree with meanie -regular exercise is a key to me getting sleep. Acutally competative exercise is the most effective, that's why I still play basketball regularly on week nights and officiate basketball -taking your frustrations out on people in an arena where it's allowed is great medicine
