But I did just turn down a calling because of "time"...

I was asked to be a Seminary teacher. In our Stake it is a 4 yr. commitment. The early morning class meets at 5:30 A.M. but doesn't get out until 6:10.

My drive to work is 45 minutes and we start at 7.

Just wouldn't work.

Kills me though. Would have gotten me out of PEC and everything.

The reason I ask this is that Juanita Brooks turned down about 3 callings when she started to get more serious about historical writing. She had litttle time as it was taking care of all the kids in her "merged" family with her second husband.

Prior to that she had served as the stake relief society president.

I always have a hard time looking across the desk and telling the bishop that I don't have enough time to serve.

I figure the Lord knows how much time I have to devote to the calling, and if he calls me, it must OK with him that I spend no more than that. When I was Ward Mission Leader, I had a friend who was WML in a neighboring ward. He probably put in at least three times the hours than I did. I didn't feel bad about it. I did what I could, and the Lord and the Bishop both knew my schedule when they called me.

I have never turned down a calling, but after three years of teaching seminary I had to tell the stake that I couldn't do it any longer. Three years of early morning seminary wore me out.
