That's incredible.
A few years ago I did some consulting in South Florida and got to take an airboat and helicopter tour of the region. The runoff from the sugar cane farms has a huge impact on the ecology of the everglades. Just a few ppm difference in phosphorus concentration completely changes the vegetation.

I'm just glad our technologically and industrial advanced country has enough capital to afford to do this. If we were a poor country we'd have to keep making the sugar.
