of course when the home is found to be a danger, a kid can be removed. this happens all the time.
I'm talking about where the kid isn't in danger, but is merely a witness, and the state doesn't want the witness tampered with. The only "beating" I am aware of, was alleged over the phone, and the state elected not to arrest the suspect (presumably because of zero evidence that he could have committed the assault). |

Which of these kids is in danger? They have allegations of abuse, they have obvious statutory rape going on, they also have a group stonewalling and the men seem to have fled the area. So until they can straighten everything out, they need to talk to everyone. Again, I am not saying I agree, per se. I am just saying that it is not as simple as others make it seem. This whole thread, including my posts (maybe ESPECIALLY my posts) is conjecture. It would be wise for the Texas police to start sharing some info.

I know of no reports that men "fled the area". I do know that they ringed the temple, and some of them cried as the authorities went in.
Which of the kids is in danger? Well, let's go on a fishing expedition. Which houses have drugs in them? Which cars have drugs? I'll find you some drugs if you give me carte blanche to act on my hunches and guesses. |

If the cops go in on a valid warrant and start asking questions to people, it only takes a few questions to find out the there is statutory rape occuring. At that point, there is no more fishing needed. Let's say you were pulled over for suspicion of DUI. You were NOT drunk, you dont even drink. But maybe you weaved a bit. So the cops pull you over. If they see marijuana in plain sight on the dash, they can now arrest you for that...even though they pulled you over for something else and that something else turned out to be false. In the case of the FLDS, they received a call asking for help, claiming abuse. So they received a valid warrant. once they are in, they see stuff all over the place that is wrong. They ask a few questions and boom....they have uncovered a web of statutory rape, forced marriages, and who knows what else.

It seems that this is exactly what the Texas authorities are doing.
Getting them away from the parents so the kids may not be coached. http://apnews.myway.com/article/20080415/D902HMFO0.html Also, the article says that women with kids under 5 stayed with their kids.

I'm late to this discussion but to me it comes down to this
If the state has evidence of actual abuse and only takes the kids where that can be proven, fine. If the argument is that it is abusive to "brainwash" these kids with their wacky religion, then I have a BIG problem with that. I don't care if you worship Satan, you have the right to teach your kids whatever value system you want to.
The minute the precedent is set that teaching a certain set of religious values to children is abusive, we have a HUGE problem. Of course, the secularists would love it. Creationism? Abusive. Homosexuality is wrong? Abusive. Don't have sex until marriage? Abusive. And so on.
