You knew this would draw me out, didn't you?
This is not really a story. If you know the history there is a story to the song, but the lyrics themselves do nto tell a story like, say, Taxi. Look, if you don't think Me and Bobbie McGee is a story, this sure ain't a story. Quote:

My favorite story songs:
Red Army Blues - the Waterboys (about Russian troops in WWI who were sent to Siberia after the war) Mr. Harris - Aimee Mann (young woman falls in love with older neighbor) Hate Me - Blue October (maybe stretches the "story" definition, because the storyline's a little subtle, but this is one of the most poignant, moving songs I've heard, when you figure out what it's saying) Just a Gigolo - David Lee Roth (just kidding) Those are the ones that come to mind right now.

I thought of another one:
Life in a Northern Town - Dream Academy (about Nick Drake)

Am I mistaken? Have we no violinists among us? I swear he's sharp on every other note, but as a violist my credibility on matters of intonation may be in question.
What about the one about calling my Marie in Memphis, Tennessee? Is that a story song? I like that one. Starry Starry Night is cool but depressing, |

I thought of another. "Tom Dooley" , Kingston Trio version.
There is also a really good song by Slaid Cleaves called "Lydia" recorded in the last 5 years that is good.

Slaid Cleaves is a great storyteller.

I've posted this before in other threads, but this is actually an appropriate thread for this great story song:

You guys are me. I alluded to it in my original post (the part about dragons?) and Il pad posts El Paso ignoring that it was also in my original post. Oh well.
