Ironically, what Romney thought was going to be his advantage (hard-line position on immigration) ended up being his achilles heel once he left Iowa and NH. The hispanics in Florida punished the hell out of him. And I'm sure the same was the case in CA.

I've read a few articles that say the immigration issue often seems to be bigger in northern states where there aren't as many Hispanics. I've lived in Texas for 13 years and still haven't noticed the anti-immigrant backlash that the media keeps telling us is there. I think it's places with small but growing Hispanic populations (like Utah, Iowa, NH) where people don't really deal with it firsthand very much but are scared because Fox News incessantly talks about it. Really, that's the only news network that does. In a way I think they're stirring the pot because it generates ratings.

Texas has already been invaded and taken over. War is over. Move along...

There's nothing left to fight over in Texas.

Fortunately we got the oil out of it before someone arbitrarily labelled the whole state a "park and preserve."

Why aren't you drillers upset at the Florida GOP, which has fought off-shore derricks in Florida?
What do you propose as a short term solution to our dependency on middle eastern oil?

The real problem is dependency on oil PERIOD, not where it comes from. The oil market is a world market, not a regional one. To single out where we get it from is a nonsensical argument if you understand the economics. The middle east will always be front and center as long as anyone in the world is buying oil from them. Now if the US were to stop using oil completely, then yes, it would diminish the influence of the middle east. The British were self sufficient in their oil production in the 70s but they were paying the same high prices everyone else was anyway.

That and his other dumb quote saying there will be more wars. Then there's his stupid joke about "bomb, bomb, bomb...bomb, bomb, Iran" to the tune of "Barbaranne."

LMAO. Are you for real? "Raping our parks?" What the hell kind of "park" is the frozen wasteland that is ANWR? Give me a break. Besides, the "footprint" of the area required to get the oil out of ANWR is a fraction of the entire area.

You didn't just compare the waters of Florida coast to ANWR, did you?

Interesting points. And yet, wouldn't increased supply of crude together with increased domestic refining capacity lower the price, or at least make it less depended on a volatile region of the world?

Are you saying that there is no short term solution?
