Default Almost no one of any importance has endorsed Romney

and I think this has really hurt. If there had been some sort of conservative groundswell after Florida, it would have made a huge difference. But there was none. And then McCain got a lot of endorsements, and suddenly he gets to be seen as the consensus candidate.

A lot of big players took a look at Romney, in his moment of dire need, and said "screw you."

I think this was absolutely key.

So whatever his plans are for the next four years, he needs to curry favor with the folks that matter.

Romney really is the new kid on the block in national Repub politics. The results are not surprising, even if he hadn't veered to the right. McCain has been around for years. People are confortable with him (well as comfortable as one can be with McCain).

Religion rises inevitably from our apprehension of our own death. To give meaning to meaninglessness is the endless quest of all religion. When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith.
