Bad Religion is great, but I much prefer their early 80s stuff.

I'm a fan of Agent Orange, Black Flag and TSOL too.

I love The Clash, though some would argue that they weren't as punk as we'd like them to be.

But if we're talking punk, it's all about The Ramones.
Il Pad, ANY discussion of punk begins with The Clash. All the others who followed were made in their mold...this includes the NY Dolls, Sex Pistols, and the Ramones....whom I love. Gabba Gabba Hey! In my mind, punk is more attitude than power chords. The Clash had mohawks and were singing about political and social issues long before it was "fashionable." Even perma-politic bands like Dead Kennedys wouldnt exist without them.

Sandanista! is one of my top 15 albums of all time.

Have you ever heard the duet with Joe Strummer and Johnny Cash covering Bob's "Redemption Song?" Haunting. I love it.

I should have made more clear that I'm not one who believes that The Clash aren't as punk as others. I love 'em.

I'd always been under the impression (apparently the wrong impression) that it was the Ramones who started it and took it to the UK. Thanks for the correction.

I haven't heard that duet. I now need to.

The Ramones formed about the same time, actually. Perhaps even a bit earlier, by a factor of months. However, Joey himself has said that their music was influenced by The Clash.

Whats not to love about either, frankly.

Great song. The Unearthed Cash box set has a ton of gems like this. His Nick Cave duets are also nice to listen to.

I have never given proper attention to his Bad Seeds stuff, but everything I have heard I have liked. Recommended?

The first time I heard that Redemption Song cover, I I got teary eyed. I was driving on the freeway and it came on and it really blew me away. I don't know why.

I'm in the same boat. I have a co-worker who loves Nick Cave, so I'm also due to give it a listen.

Agreed. Both are great.

I have to admit though, that my fan allegiance to Mick Jones really escalated with Big Audio Dynamite.
