Why on earth would anyone care about being quoted criticizing the LDS Church's stance on gays if they weren't worried about their status with the LDS Church?

Maybe they were misquoted. Maybe they changed their mind. Maybe their spouse would be unhappy. Maybe they decided it was inappropriate, not as to their status, but as a matter of public record. I readily concede that an individual member might decide not be quoted, but I doubt it is as a result of Church 'coercion.'

Here the spouse would be an agent, instrument of LDS coersion. They enforce like Stasi used to.

When I read the article, I thought "wow here are some people really taking a stand, potentially losing their memberships, which I assume they value, because of their speaking out."

Not.

He ran for president of BYUSA. He had to either be gay or a nerd, or both.

I mean, how many LDS women use "you're not honoring your priesthood" to oppress their husbands?

Amen, Brother Waters. This is like the "decaparecidos" in Argentina.
