The two main singles wards in the LA area are the Santa Monica 3rd (which meets just off the 405 a few blocks south of the 10) and the LA 1st (which meets in the building behind the temple). I think if she's living anywhere in West LA, she'll be in the Santa Monica 3rd's boundaries. In general, there is one main difference: the LA 1st is for the artsy Hollywood-types and the Santa Monica 3rd is for the more mainstream types. This is a broad brush stroke, as there are all types in both wards, but I think you get the point. Santa Monica 3rd's vibe is more like the Colonial Ward in DC, the Stanford Ward in Palo Alto, etc. -- more conservative and mainstream, but of course a ton of great folks. LA 1st's vibe is definitely different. I preferred the LA 1st the few times I visited, but I wasn't looking to date a former BYU Relief Society President. If she's looking for Peter Priesthood, definitely stick with SM 3rd. If not, then she might want to give LA 1st a try. Either way she'll be fine b/c there will be plenty of opportunities to meet people from all over Southern California. |
