I caught Broken Social Scene on their last trip through L.A. They were playing with Feist. I really liked the concert, but I have to say, they aren't the universal geniuses that so many people think they are.
What they really seem to have going for them is a sense that they absolutely love love love what they are doing... a bunch of folks that get to tour the world and hang out with their friends, the people they love and care about, doing the thing that they love to do most, making music, and getting paid for it all. They were very cool, and it was a great concert, but they are no Radiohead or U2. If you are interested in more Canadian rock coming out of the Toronto scene you should check out Arcade Fire. They are the real deal, at the Radiohead/U2 level. No kidding. |

BTW, that is Feist doing the lead female vocals for BSS. She was pretty good too, but did her best work with BSS rather than solo.
Canadians are awesome. Proud to be one. |
