Is the MWC a basketball league?

New Mexico is a basketball school in a basketball league. Among the Mountain West Conference's eight other members are basketball stalwarts such as Nevada-Las Vegas, Utah, Brigham Young, and more recently, San Diego State and Air Force

How many of you consider the MWC to be a basketball league? I always considered the MWC to be a football league (meaning that football gets more attention and has more prestige in the league than basketball). The Colonial league or the Atlantic 10 - those are basketball leagues. The MWC certainly didn't add TCU to the conference in order to make the conference better at basketball.

Am I just delusional in thinking of the MWC as a football league?
