Throwing a game = you go into a game knowing you will purposefully do things so that your team will lose, you consciously decide: I am not going to make this block, I am going to go off-sides on third and short, I am going to clip a dude on the opposite side of the field on a large gain, etc.

There is a huge difference in intent. Players give up on coaches, programs, themselves, all the time, but they aren't out there throwing games with the intent that the coach will lose his job.

Indy said that LR Jr, said he purposefully threw a game.
