It's relevant because you're claiming that you would more efficiently distribute your money to help the poor than the government. I couldn't care less what organization you pick. But here, the government is giving you exactly what you want--more of your tax dollars back--and how much of it are you giving to the poor (as you claim you would, and so much more efficiently than the government)?

That's my point--we cut government programs and the poor will suffer. In the end, people really just want to keep more of their money.
