It is pretty impressive that during the year, American Idol had the following people perform:

Prince
Live
Mary J Blige
Queen
Meatloaf--holy crap, I had no idea he was still around
Shakira
Wyclef Jean
the Gambler

Yeah, a lot of them are over the hill, but none of these guys would have shown up during the first season of Idol. Funny how the biggest star ever from Idol, Kelly Clarkson, never showed her face during the entire competition.

And fwiw, when we found out that there was going to be a show like the british version Pop Idol, here in the states...my wife and I laughed and said how it would never work over in the states. Yep, I probably would have lost my job if tv people listened to me.
