What Obama means for business
Nice read from Nina Easton.
http://money.cnn.com/2008/06/20/maga...ion=2008062311 I am beginning to see it BYU71's way. Obama is at core a politician who will trade ideology for power. He's a pragmatist and we're seeing the shift. Granted, he still says some crazy things, but I think he's a lot more moderate than he showed during the primary. |

If the Obama in the back of my mind is who he is, he is downright scary. He is a socialist who can dupe the American public down the road to socialism and there will be no stopping him before it is too late. He also would have a fertile ground to work in. Your current college students and recent grads of college are an entitlement generation. Perhaps mine was an expectation generation or deserves generation, but we knew we had to give something to get it. The vast majority of those under 30 in my opinion feel entitled. They deserve a trophy just as much as the guy who actually won. In actuality there is something wrong with others if they don't win. These are the types where socialism could turn out to be very appealing. Don't worry about the current rich and elite. They will maintain their status too. The evolution will come on the backs of those climbing the ladder. There will be no latter. |

If he would drop this Windfall Profits Tax nonsense and propose an energy plan that didn't consist entirely of pixie dust and dilithium crystals I'd have no problem with him. His tax regime needs a little work too. But realizing that Presidents aren't omnipotent dictators able to effect change with a flick of the wrist gives me some peace of mind. And the fact that nobody, even those in the same party, can seem to work together in DC calms me even further.
As a side note, while I'm not crazy about McCain's energy plan either,(for once I'd like a comprehensive energy plan that advances the interest of nation as a whole) but at least it is partially based in reality.

What we really need to fear is a some sort of carbon tax or cap in trade scheme. Of course both candidates are in favor of this, so we're screwed either way.
We're gonna see some serious buyers remorse with McCain. The media built his up knowing he'd be easy to tear down once the nomination was his. The dude has the charisma of a banana slug. Mitt would eat Obama alive in the debates. Oh well.

Obama is the most natural person in front of the camera of the three, but McCain is arguably the worst. I always found Mitt to be too wooden, too stiff.

vast majority of economists support a carbon tax. Conservative ones just want tax cuts elsewhere to offset it.

Never said I'd vote for him. Just that I wouldn't kill myself if he won
