I'm paraphrasing, because I don't remember his words exactly, but President Monson in the Priesthood Session said a line about evil hiding behind a Halloween mask of tolerance.
He didn't seem to expound on the thought, but he was very emphatic about it. Anyone have any thoughts? |

I'm not sure what he was referring to exactly. However, the guy in front of me let out a pretty loud "amen". I'm pretty sure I know what he was referring to.

No, but it reminds me of some pretty cool trivia.
The original Michael Myers mask used in Halloween was actually a mask of Captain Kirk/William Shatner. The movie was made on a very shoestring budget and the mask was purchased at a local costume shop for less than $2! The eyes were cut a bit bigger and then the whole thing was painted white to give it an eerie look. Also, in the first Halloween, Michael Myers wasn't even credit as such. He is simple called "The Shape." ![]()

IIRC, Elder Uchtdorf condemned intolerance in his PH talk. We're receiving mixed signals from the brethren.

It seems to me that Monson is talking about tolerance being the mask - that it really isn't what it seems. If so, the signals would be the same.

Agreed. I certainly didn't take it as advocating intolerance. The thought I had was that too often today, "tolerance" means you have to believe that certain behaviors are okay, not just "live and let live" but they would actually be thought police. Or you are branded "intolerant". That's what I think he was referring to. Calling good eveil and evil good comes to mind.
