Default has anyone here ever adopted?

more to the point, has anyone here ever been to an adoption fair? You know, where the kids are old enough to talk to you?

Found out a guy from my ward, just a couple years older than me has had a foster son for many years, who is now going on a mission. Blew me away.

Is there a greater tragedy than a child with no parents or family?

I don't think I could handle an adoption fair. I still wince at the memory of the dogs I didn't adopt in the shelter.

We have four cats, two dogs, one lizard, and one bird. A "kitten" walked by our house last night and I had to hide it from my wife. We might also buy another dog.

We are also considering adopting children from China, but it is a lengthy process.

HELL no! I can barely get out of the humane society without feeling like a dick for not bringing those animals home.

If I went to an adoption fair and didn't offer to give a home to any kid there I'd probably hate myself for months.

Mrs. Hippie says that she wants to have an "open home" when we get established. I agree but I can't imagine how bad that is going to suck dealing with kids who have been left alone like that.

Friend of mine just adopted from China a few months ago. I think it took over a year to get everything in order, but less than 2 years.

there is a family in my ward who has adopted 3 kids from china. They both spoke chinese (missions) so that definitely helped them.

My family growing up had several foster brothers and sisters while I was growing up. I could answer questions although limited if someone had them.

Never adpoted, but my parents did adopt me and my 3 siblings. They went through LDS social services when we were all newborns.

I've always known that I'm an adopted child and it has never bothered me. I've never had any desire to meet the birth mother, as she was only the egg donor and nothing more. My parents are those that raised me.

The only thing that has ever bothered me about being adopted is that I was never able to benefit from genetics of my parents, as far as height is concerned: Mom is 6' and Dad is 6'4". I'm 5'9".

(In my best Uncle Rico voice): If only my parents had been able to conceive, I would have been tall enough that I'd have had a career in the NBA.

A couple of years ago my wife and I went to the pound (her first trip) and on the way home she said, "Did you see all the dogs had recent arrival dates? That's great that they get adopted so quickly." I just sat there silently as she awaited my response. Then it clicked for her and she started to tear up and just barely held back from bawling. It was a long afternoon.

My sister (whose husband is adopted) adopted two children. The funny thing about it is that we had an unmarried pregnant girl attend our singles ward. She stopped attending the ward (having had her baby) at about the same time my sister adopted her daughter. Plus, my niece looks very much like that pregnant girl from our singles ward.

Seriously, I think my sister got her baby.

Another funny thing is that my son bears a lot of resemblance to my adopted nephew - they look much more alike than my son does compared to any of his other cousins.

My wife was adopted from El Salavador, her parents started the process at birth but due to all sorts of hold ups and problems she didnt arrive to the US until almost 4 years old. Her parents were very very close to giving up because it had cost them so much money.

I am sure glad they didnt.
