Default A few pics from the vacation..

The view of Mt. Rushmore through one of the tunnels on the highway. The engineers who built the road intentionally had the tunnels go through the rock in order to frame the monument.

The family somewhere in Custer State Park

A few of the buffalo I saw in Custer State Park:

Sheridan Reservoir (I think that's the name) somewhere in South Dakota on US 20 between Rapid City and the Wyoming border:

The view of Devil's Tower from our campsite

A couple more shots of Devil's Tower

Looks fun. It actually looks like a good ol' pack the car, drive across country and see cool stuff while the kids drive you nuts kind of vacation. My BIL wants to take his kids on all these foreign vacations, which is cool, but I don't understand why you wouldn't show them their own country first.

No pictures of the Mormon Handcart sight at Martin's Cove? Or Tokyo Massage in Casper?

Wow, your son (the one on the left) looks like dear old dad!

Did you guys make it to the Crazy Horse monument? The sculptor's vision was really interesting.....not sure how much of it has progressed since I was there as a kid.

Yes, he is the kid that looks most like me. The rest look like their mom.

I did get around to posting the pic from Crazy Horse. The thing is huge. We'll all be dead long before it's finished.

Yes it was a lot of fun and very educational. The 9 year old boy can't wait to get back in school to tell his class about the trip and all he learned about Mt. Rushmore.

Did you take a picture of the old Oregon Trail bridge over the Sweetwater at Independence Rock? An impressive piece of engineering for that time period. I was actually through there one day before you (on the 2nd.) We had an on-site with the BLM to discuss our plans to rape some virgin territory just to the south.

If you like happy endings, and I think we all do, then Tokyo Massage is the place for you. Unintentional rhyming, btw.

I didn't see Independence Rock, but I wanted to. I had to head off to SD to appease the masses who were holding pitchforks and torches while chanting "Mt. Rushmore! Mt. Rushmore!" repeatedly. They were in the back of the van. I wasn't ready to die that day.

I have heard that that bridge is an impressive structure. It's amazing what folks can do when it needs to be done, eh?

My friend has a theory that North and South Dakota don't really exist, because nobody has ever met someone who is from either of those states, and those who claim to be from there are just looking for attention, trying to be different.

You just shot her hypothesis to pot, unless you are in on the conpiracy, that is.
