No terrorist attacks on American soil since Sept 2001
Just curious here ... how many of you are willing to give credit to Bush for this? You may think he bungled the war(s). You may even think he's actually made us "less safe" by giving terrorists recruiting material. (I think that's stupid, but that's a debate for another time.)
But it's undeniable that no terrorism has taken place on our soil since that day. Who would've guessed that? I'd wager near nobody thought we'd go this long. Presidents typically get a lot of blame and a lot of credit for things that they don't deserve. Part of the job. Does Bush get credit for this?

By the way, anyone know if the surge is working. I haven't seen any coverage on the news. |

Gangs are terrorizing Americans, with many thousands of Americans murdered by all kinds of awful people. What has Bush done about that?
Some of the smarter people are saying that Bush has radically overstated the power of Al Qaeda. I believe Fukuyama has said this. |

I look at this bit of news the same way I would look at an airline that started touting how long they've gone without a fatal crash.

Australia's President deserves a ton of credit too.
Canada's PM has done an amazing job protecting their people from AQ. |

Iraq isn't "American soil?"

How many terrorist attacks have we ever had on American soil? Pearl Harbor, World Trade 1, and then World Trade 2. Besides that?
I dont fault him for 9/11, so why would I give him credit for post 9/11? Do you credit Bill Clinton for keeping America safe for 8 years except for one World Trade Center attack? It is almost the exact same thing. He is doing what pretty much all other Presidents have done. I guess I dont see what he has done that is so out of the ordinary from other Presidents (for good or bad) when it comes to protecting our soil. If we want to go that route, I also credit W from ensuring that we did not fall into a Civil War, also.

I agree with Waters. Al Qaeda hasn't got the means to wage war on American soil. And 9/11 happened because our government affirmatively let us down. All they had to do was be commonsensical and and marginally competent and it wouldn't have happened. If there were no soveireign immunity the families of the slain would have a claim for negligence, maybe recklessness, especially against the CIA. But all that bungling is probably not Bush's fault.
