Do you think it's fair that tax dollars pay Kobe Bryant's $30 million salary
and government pays youth peanuts to get ripped apart in Iraq and Afghanistan?

Another reason to detest the NBA. Maybe we'd be benefited if the entire pro sports system were disbanded or made to rely upon no taxpayer money.

Cowboys wanted a new stadium. Dallas refused to fund it. Arlingon, a suburb of Dallas between Dallas and Fort Worth, decided to foot the bill.
Recently however, the rate of return on their bonds increased due to the economy, and they had to refinance the bonds at a fixed rate, costing the city $2 million more, in addition to all the other money they are putting in. Spectacular morons. http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcont...d.3dfbff2.html Quote:

Athletes and everybody else should make whatever the market bears for their services. Unless you prefer a socialist state, how can you disagree with this? Professional sports should do whatever is in their best interest financially. The same goes for municipalities that may or may not decide to subsidize professional sports franchises. You can argue that government entities should be unwilling to subsidize sports franchises but I wouldn't take that argument any further. |

I am surprised at the folks who voted in this poll. I would have assumed that most of them would already be in the habit of challenging the premise before accepting it as fact.
How embarassing.

Triplet lives in a fantasy that the Lakers are a special case in that they don't receive a penny of government largesse. He's wrong. They're as much on the teet as aony other team. See discussion above. The essential point is that pub lic money subsidizes NBA salaries. NBA owners, coaches and players are on the public dole. The NBA is a huge taxpayer funded. boondoggle for the vey rich and all Americans and American cities should tell the NBA to fuck off.

I never saw your source for Kobe's 30M salary. Would you care to share it with the group?

He uses the handouts he receives and the "Los Angeles" brand name to leverage endorsements that with his $21 million salary actually greatly exceed $30 million. If this is the only point you're reducted to that's pretty lame.
