Dang
just got a call to speak on sunday.
two dangs: 1. we have to get to church on time this week. That means an extra early rise to get the horses fed on time..... 2. not long to pull some thoughts together. Topic is "Peace through obedience". Not a particularly interesting topic, but I need to think about it. Interesting ideas would be gratefully accepted.

If you could somehow tie it into the torture debate, I would listen with rapt attention.

Perhaps you could point out "peace through obedience" is a basic truth.
You could point out that even in the Muslim world, obedience can get you peace and 72 virgins. That would be a real tough subject for me. I think I would tell the Bishop I don't want to give the talk. Good luck. |

It's to your advantage to have your wife fake fainting during the sacrament. That will delay things at least 5 min.
Then when you get up, tell at least a 5 min joke. And then ask the congregation to join you in an impromptu hymn. And then says, I'd like to read this entire chapter from the book of ______ because it is so important. 95% of the audience will zone out as soon as they hear you say that, and you could start reading numerals of pi, for all they care. |

You could talk about Barak. He was fearful, afraid to act out his part in the prophesy spoken by Deborah. He asked her to accompany him. Together they freed God's people from the Canaanites and brought about forty years of peace.
Voila, peace through obedience in spite of fear. Judges 4-5 oops. I just realized Barak will sound like Obama and people will think you're making a political statement. Last edited by BarbaraGordon; 06-20-2007 at 03:47 PM. Reason: oops. |

Please explain the solution to Fermat's Last Theorem. I have never had it explained to me, the proof that is, and how they believe Fermat arrived at it without the advanced math now used.

Talk about that Dr. Lee guy that took hard drives from Los Alamos to his home and how much peace he had by not being obedient.
