well, I knew it was bad, but I didn't know it was this bad

The church employs janitors to clean meetinghouses in Utah. Yet out here in the "mission field" they have the members clean it every week. Nice. |

It seems like we have to clean the church about every other month. I remember the good ol' church custodian days.
Do volunteers clean the Utah temples? I have cleaned the Memphis temple several times.

I don't think it is so bad to hire custodians. Or otherwise pay people to clean.
For example, I have seen it where people who were given fast offering money were asked to "pay it off" by doing work for the church (note: I am not referring to my time as exec. secretary, for any ward members who may be reading this). Also, my mother was a church custodian for many years, and it of course was a big help to our family for her to have that employment. My father, for a time, was the assistant custodian. |

That does seem mildly shocking. I guess the church isn't doing that well in the stock market?
And I do think that article suggests that the custodians are employed in places other than ward meetinghouses. But I agree that I would like to see that rule reversed and paid custodians employed. It is my hope it would help the situation in the church bathrooms, which I find to be less than sanitary at my building. |

There was never a cleaner meetinghouse that the one my mother cleaned.
Although Farrah was never there, I'm sure she can vouch for me. |

I know enough about your mom to vouch for you.

Well, as members lose their income, tithing dollars would decline as well. I wonder if it has something to do with that.

Yes, but it's hard to believe that would have this much of an impact, this quickly. And one has the impression that the church is quite wealthy to begin with. It's just odd.

Years ago when my parents were down on their luck, they received assistance from the Bishop's Storehouse in exchange for them spending time cleaning the meetinghouses.
