Prayer and meditation
How closely are they linked?

I believe most prayer is meditation, with only very few being anything but.

For me they are one and the same. I do have a somewhat formal meditation routine with breathing patterns and so on, that I do at night before sleeping.
No insomnia for me.

I think prayer is simialr but different from what I think of as meditation. For me meditation means attmepting to empty your mind; it is focus on nothing. Prayer is simialr but instead of a focus on nothing it is a focus on god and seeks to fill your mind with his will through directed supplicaiton.

Is this really different than prayer? Aren't emptying your mind first of pettiness before you focus on other things? Meditation can also involve breathing techniques, but for me, the act of emptying the mind of garbage before focusing upon matters requiring attention are almost identical.
