Most unnecessary leadership meeting?
Or ones that involve more people than necessary?
I vote for missionary correlation meeting. Why do members from the auxiliary groups, and ward missionaries all need to be there? The ward mission leader should simply meet with the Elders, and then email/call the other leaders regarding any help the Elders need with fellowshipping, splits, etc. |

Yes, very redundant.

My take on the various meetings:
- PEC - the meeting where the 2nd most work gets done. The most work gets done in regular bishopric meeting. - Ward Council - The meeting where the women take most of the time yakking. Ward council usually breaks out like this: 30 minutes for the RS, 15 minutes for the YW, 15 minutes for the Primary, 30 secs. for the high priests, 30 secs. for the Elders, 30 secs. for the sunday school, 30 secs. for the YM. The fact that the Sunday School president is supposed to be in this meeting shows what a complete joke of a meeting this is. The Sunday School president is simply a vestigial calling that is completely worthless (some people like those kinds of callings). - Welfare meeting - Better than Ward Council because I don't believe the YM/YW/Primary are there. The agenda is basically the same - talk about stuff in the ward, regardless of whether it's really a 'welfare' issue or not. - Never even heard of missionary correlation meeting. It sounds completely useless. - "Key Scouters" (or whatever they call that meeting where the YM presidency, scoutmaster, scout committee leader, bishopric, etc. are all present) is so mind-numbingly dull that I've never been able to stay awake through an entire session. |

Many years ago I was the SS President (a position which should be abolished) and I was baffled as to why I should be in Ward Council.

No. Of course, I've attended lots of meetings for which I never knew the names. I was a stake missionary many times, and other missionary positions, and attended a bunch of meetings.
I can't even keep PEC, Welfare, Ward Council and some of those other meetings straight.

Couldn't agree more.
I'm a ward missionary. The worst part about our weekly correlation meeting is that it's only 30 minutes long and is at 8:00 on Sunday mornings. And the church is 30 minutes from my house. Oh and our meetings are 12:30-3:30. So I have to drag my but out of bed early, put on a tie and drive an hour round trip for a 30 minute meeting that is usually worthless. |

I was recently WML. Normal Coordination Meetings were me, the Ward Missionaries, and the FT Missionaries. I didn't want to invite anyone else, because
- Most of the people I'd invite already have enough meetings - I could get everything done I needed to by following up afterwards However, every single missionary that came through asked me why we didn't invite more people, and thought I was a loser WML (probably not far off), so I finally relented and started inviting everyone else one meeting per month, and I would make that meeting last 15 minutes after church. After I was released, the new WML started getting everyone there for every meeting. My expert opinion is that this meeting is completely unnecessary if the following two conditions exist: 1. The missionaries only cover one ward 2. The missionaries attend PEC |
