Default MTN now I finally get it

http://www.cougarboard.com/nologin/m...tml?id=2874067

Sorry for the MTN posts today. I think I finally get it. WhoisJohnGalt lays out the #'s for Comcast and Dish penetration in Utah, but butchers the analysis. Warp in the last comment on the thread nails the analysis.

MTN is just a $8M per year marketing initiative to convert 20K or so Dish subscribers in MWC regions. Just that makes it a win for Comcast. Shame on MWC presidents to allow for this to happen. Ain't gonna get fixed without threats from MWC presidents to Comcast. Stop calling Dish and start asking for your team's AD to get fired. That will put at least put a fire under one person in the equation.

What happens when the thing goes bankrupt? The lack of available homes must be killing advertising revenues, which is what drives the business models of tv stations. When the mtn dies an untimely death will either Versus or CSTV become the flagship station of the MWC? Certainly, ESPN is gonna give the MWC the big ol fat middle finger.

How much do you spend to advertise on the mtn? Those good rural folks need your product and what better way to get the word out than on a channel that is available to the number of folks that is equal to the entire population of Mink Creek, Idaho?

I'm making a lot of assumptions here. But let's say Comcast believes it has converted 10K subscribers due to MTN. That's $7.2M per year at the $60 per month assumption JohnGalt throws out.

Let's say the MTN is going in the red by business model using advertising + subscription fees (measly stuff from non Comcast local cable) to the tune of $4M red per year. That's $2M red to Comcast and $2M red to CSTV. CSTV probably makes $2M on the CSTV and Versus part of the MWC contract and Comcast certainly makes $2M off their 10K subscriber conversion. I don't think CSTV and Comcast will ever let it go under.

They also probably get a tighter grip on local advertising revenues. That should be accounted for somewhere.

don't forget that the mtn is probably getting $.75 - $1.00 per comcast subscriber. if there is 300k subscribers in Utah that is 3.6million a year they are splitting with cstv

Interesting. I'm guessing this was part of the deal to sell to Comcast. Comcast probably didn't have to put down any cash, just offer $1 per subscriber to CSTV to obtain 50% ownership.
