Default Is life harder as an "orthodox" Mormon or a "liberal" Mormon?

I personally think it is much more stressful and depressing to be an orthodox Mormon.

On my mission it seemed like the more orthodox guys were feeling stressed out and guilty all the time. It seems like a lot of women in the Church, who tend to be more literal and orthodox than most men (in my opinion), tend to feel stressed out, depressed, and guilty.

What says CG? Is life more stressful as an orthodox or a liberal Mormon and why?

Good answer, Indy.

From now on, no discussing anything to which we will not find a definitive answer.

Do I stop going to Church?

I think it has much much more to do with personality. For example, you can be stressed out over trying to fulfill every jot and tittle, just as you can stress over every "crisis of conscience" you encounter in studying doctrine or history. Alternatively, you can have a pretty laid back attitude about either of those things as well.

A little stress in life is good, it means that we feel motivated. Not much more than that little works in my life, however. And I tried high stress for a little while (and I mean all that in general not just as regards the church).

Napoleon Dynamite fan, huh? Me too.

I guess the person best qualified to answer this might be somebody who has either become more strict or more liberal in his religious attitude over the course of his life.

myboynoah could answer this. I think he has become stricter and more orthodox, but I can't really tell that he has chilled out as a result.

I agree with this. Personality makes a big difference. Some people are just generally unhappy and stressed out all the time while others are always pretty happy -- general temperament seems to be a fixed characteristic of each person's personality.

It still seems to me that taking Church doctrines and policies too literally and seriously creates excess stress for a lot of people.

Don't relax. If I were to relax, this site would die in 2 days.

Only if it makes you feel better. After all, we've come to discover this week that the primary purpose of this mortal existence is to have joy.
