Obama supports Federal ban on concealed carry

In 2004, while running for the Democratic nomination for the Senate seat he now holds, Obama indeed called for "national legislation" to prevent anyone but law enforcers from carrying concealed firearms. The Chicago Tribune, which queried the candidates on several issues, reported:

Chicago Tribune (Feb. 20 2004): Obama ... backed federal legislation that would ban citizens from carrying weapons, except for law enforcement. He cited Texas as an example of a place where a law allowing people to carry weapons has "malfunctioned" because hundreds of people granted licenses had prior convictions.

"National legislation will prevent other states' flawed concealed-weapons laws from threatening the safety of Illinois residents," Obama said.

More recently, Obama was quoted by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review in an article on April 2, 2008, saying "I am not in favor of concealed weapons. ... I think that creates a potential atmosphere where more innocent people could (get shot during) altercations."

In his heart of hearts, Obama seeks to disarm all law-abiding citizens. But because he is a calculating politician, he will merely try to disarm citizens to the point that it is politically expedient.

We have a guy with a pumped-up resume who is running this country with little-to-no experience. Who has no respect for us. God help us.

I guess it doesn't occur to Obama and his ilk that people don't carry concealed weapons to get involved in a gunfight.

Legally owned and concealed weapons are not a problem; it's the illegal use of weapons that poses a problem at times.

But from what I've read, the person who takes the trouble to get one, is likely to be a law abiding citizen. CWPs are wise and judicious.

I agree.

The problem is that Obama and his cronies are incapable of differentiating the law abiding citizens from the criminals. If you carry a gun, you're one in the same as far as he is concerned.

If Second Amendment haters such as yourself were wise, you'd actually encourage registration for CWPs, and if used illegally, you could enhance the crime.

I have not seen recent statistics, but anybody fearing the misuse of legitimately obtained and lawfully registered weapons for concealment, is misinformed. I cannot understand how anybody opposes CWPs.
