Boy, what a mess. I can't believe they didn't explain that part of the script before hiring the boy. Tough situation. That is the pivotal event of the entire story.

I hate mullahs. Mormon mullahs. Afghan mullahs. All kinds.

Doesn't it bother you about the sudden emergence of films with child rape scenes? Off the top of my head, there's this film and the Dakota Fanning flick. If a film hinges on the necessity of filming a scene where a kid is being sexually assaulted, is it a story really worth telling or finding a young actor to protray it?

I've obviously seen neither movie, but it would depend on how graphic it was.

I would prefer a society that puts this in the public discourse over one that pretends it isn't happening.

Based on viewing show descriptions of the Lifetime Channel, I don't think this has been hurting for "discourse".

I think you can show something violent starting and then show the after effects. We don't need anything more than that. To hear screaming and other sound effects is not something I want to view. Hollywood wants everything tangible and real.

The kid's reason for not wanting to have the scene shown is ridiculous. "My friends might think I was really sodomized." So then tell them that you weren't, puss. I have a tough time believing that the parents and kid didn't know what was going on when they signed up. But they knew they had to sign on the dotted line to get the dough. Now that they have their money, they want the scene out.

Could be a different motivation. Read the last line of the article.

Get paid. Get out of Afghanistan. Sounds like it was the master plan all along.
