Default I'm in Dubai

The big question is whether or not I should go skiing this afternoon.

What in the heck are you doing in Dubai? Dubai has the only officially sanctioned LDS meetinghouse in the entire Arabian peninsula. They meet on Fridays, FWIW...

BTW, if you look at their stake website, there aren't a bunch of "Desert Springs" units. Those are pseudonyms for the different units in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and elsewhere.

I'm at a work conference.

I didn't know that about the meetinghouse. I'll gone before Friday, thank goodness. I'd hate to stay for Friday, go to church, return to the U.S. on Saturday, and then go to church again on Sunday.

In Japan we had two expat families that had moved from Saudi Arabia. They told stories of secret meetings and hiding ward member lists. I told them their meetings weren't "secret," they were "sacred."

I'm off to Istanbul on Wednesday.

What do you do? I'd love to be going to places like Dubai and Turkey. I thought I was getting worn out with travel until I realized I'm just sick of most of Asia and would welcome new and exciting challenges. I'm jealous.

I get the feeling that myboynoah is kind of a big deal. Hiding behind this dumb-dumb act he plays on CG is a businessman extraordinaire.

For all the wealth America has, those resorts on the coast of Saudi Arabia make us look like Kenya.

As near as I can tell, the cheapest room available in mid-May at that hotel still goes for $1,550 a night.

I fly once or twice a month and every airline magazine has ads showing Dubai and that sailboat hotel. I feel like I've been there already and can tell you all about their great golf packages, and how close it is to Cairo and Istanbul.

Dubai is one of my favorite places in the world. Very cool place...hopefully you can get out and enjoy the city a bit.
