Extraordinary Rendition - The best of both worlds
Those who support enhanced interrogation techniques (torture) have the comfort of knowing that the suspected terrorists being questioned by agents in Uzbekistan, Egypt, Syria and other like nations. Those opposed to these methods can rest well knowing that it isn't our guys doing the dirty work.
As a bonus, it's an international effort so we're developing allies in the process. See, Win-Win. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extraordinary_rendition |

Thus, what happens at Gitmo is "child's play" by comparison.

So, should the 'childs play' acts at Gitmo stay the course and not change. This is an argument that I never understand. Yes, there are some real bad people that do horrible things to our people and our soldiers. Shouldn't we stay away from all forms of torture to truly serperate us from them?
Yes, waterboarding may not be cutting off someone's genitals...but does it mean that we should still do these lesser things? Where do we draw the line on how far we are willing to go? |

And it would have been ok to throw huge rocks, as long as someone else was throwing knives.

It's called a cost/benefit analysis and all of us are using different equations.

Exactly what benefit do you ascribe to being complicit in torturing a human being without your own country doing the actual deed? Any answer over zero in that analysis is, I believe, nothing more than a farce. It brings to mind Pontius Pilate washing his hands of Christ's fate. |
