Default Bronco is pacifying the mullahs

He really is.

This past sunday the Stake President shows up and takes a few minutes in Priesthood. He starts off by talking about his son in law who wants to be a college football coach and how the kid had them watching 7 games saturday afternoon and evening. The SP broke down the end of the Auburn-Florida game with Urban waiting until the moment before the snap to call a TO so that the ball would be snapped and the kick off before the refs stopped the play. He compared Urban with the devil in that he is sneaky and plays games with our minds. He then talked about how the kid made the kick the second time totally unfazed and how we should be unfazed in the face of evil yadda yadda yadda.

Then he mentions that he doesn't want this to get into alma maters but he follows BYU because he went there. He went into why he loves Bronco Mendenhall...it is because he does more than just win games. He extolled Bronco's virtues of having his young men wear white shirts and ties for their pictures that they show on TV and the good the kingdom gets when they mention where the BYU players served missions.

Bronco has those that would be enemies to the program, through their own good intentions, eating out of the palms of his hand. My SP is a great man and not what I would call a mullah in the least. He reflects very conservative views, but my point is that he represents what a moderatly-well informed BYU fan/LDS member thinks of this guy. They adore him. No doubt about one thing as well, my SP is a fiercely competitive guy so methinks the winning plays a big impact on how he feels about Bronco. The man used Steve Young's jersey retirement as an example of "Boanerges" in one stake priesthood talk. I can tell you if guys like this man love Bronco those who really believe BYU is the Lord's University must think having a piece of his toejam in their home will ward off the avenging angel..or at least such satanic vices like a vanilla frapacuinno.

I still say that Bronco nurturing this wing through his firesides and scripture reading at press conferences is going to bear fruit. It is giving the dude enormous clout and nobody in the Mormon Church dares stand against a General Authority in training.

Just thought I would let you know how SE Idaho potato farmer power players in the LDS Church feel about our man.

Do members of cougarguard count as "nobody in the Mormon Church"?

Fringe questioning liberals have never counted in this organization.

Methinks you are on to something. Either by chance or pure design the guy is brilliant. He tells the integrity folks the spiritual and honor side of teaching these young men is what is most important to him, whether the crowd (donors) likes it or not. Then he says he realizes he will be canned if they don't win and integrity and honor without winning has no credibility. The donors, hey fine Bronco. Do it however you have to.

There are some people there who get it. Whether they would go out and dupe fans and raise money again without the intent of getting this program back on top and beyond is I guess a time will tell answer. However, having learned their lesson so recently, I doubt it.

I have said this for a while. Bronco is the mormon version of Urban Meyer.

You look at the kids he praises and says he truly cares for. They don't all look alike or believe the same thing. I like his,"you screwed up here is what you have to do to fix things" attitude. He has the players respect. I don't know if they all love him, but I will bet they respect him.

He sets himself up for the next assault and rape allegation. That it was his fault.

He will be fine. Some of those who think he actually walks on water might take a blow, but those folks don't pay any of the bills. The brethern have seen too much to think anyone walks on water. You have stake Presidents caught in the red light district and Bishops molesting kids. You really think a HC scandal or two at BYU will ruin things.

I will tell you this. If Crowton had won 3 out of 4 MWC championships, the scandals would have blown over.

Prediction: When it does happen, Bronco will indeed claim full responsibility and offer to step down. And of course, his resignation will be denied and everyone will love him all the more.

I just hope when it happens some LDS kids are involved. That helps to soften the blow. When it is just minority non-LDS kids it really looks bad and some will call for not recruiting non-LDS kids.

It's been rare so I'm not betting it will happen any time soon. And I believe, that although Bronco isn't naive, he's still watching what sort of kids he recruits.

If it happens after a BCS bowl game or two, national prominence and multiple conference championships, you believe he'd take much of a hit? I don't.
