I guess I'm a little late to the party
but I'm finally reading the McKay biography. I'm into the chapter about blacks and the priesthood.
It seems to me (assuming that the facts in the book are true) that when you state that the church hierarchy (on the whole, with a few exceptions) in the 1960's was racist, you are merely stating a fact (i.e., the sky is blue), rather than a criticism. Very fascinating.

I apologize, but am going to assume you're talking about David O. McKay's biography? Did he write it or was someone else commissioned to? Thanks.

It's a fascinating book. Somehow we need to get SU to read it. At least the chapter you mentioned. He may gain a little insight into the whole "doctrine vs. policy" debate. He thinks it is something we invented. In fact, it was a raging debate within the first presidency and the quorum of the twelve.
Enjoy.

It was written from public materials as well as notes from his long time personal secretary.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say this sounds like a set-up to me.

David O. McKay and the Rise of Modern Mormonism.
Great book. Highly recommended; perhaps as the next book of the undetermined time period?

You are too late, AA. It was our first book of the undetermined time period.
