Football at the North Pole (practically)
An interesting piece about a high school football team in Barrow, Alaska. It brings about a question about the cost of athletics and education funding, among other things.
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/etick...ry?page=tundra It seems that we are the only country that links sports and high school (although Canada may do this, too). A lot of the Euro kids I have talked too say that miss out on having this experience, along with proms, etc. Still I wonder if this is the most approprate usage of public funds. |

I was hoping to see a picture of a polar bear eating a football. That would be cool.

I read this too. I don't understand why the city was split on the program. It cost $200,000 but they received $1.2 mil in additional funding. It seems like a small investment in the lives of these kids who have relatively little else. Great read.
