Default Paul Walker

"I was raised a Mormon, but I don't live that way," says Paul Walker, star of The Fast and the Furious. "I feel Mormons as a whole definitely wouldn't condone the things I've done as of late. Maybe I have a sick way of justifying it, but I portray characters. It's not necessarily something I condone."

Still, Walker says, religion is very much part of his life. "I don't necessarily go to a church, but I believe in God," he says. "Although the things you may see me doing in movies may not indicate that, I'm a pretty moral person."

I was just curious if he was a practicing or believing Mormon. Looks like he got into some legal trouble when younger, and has a daughter from a previous relationship.

I'd be interested in knowing how many actors were raised LDS, or at least come from and LDS background. I knew about Walker and also know that Matthew Modine was baptized as a kid, but was never really active afterwards.

Rick Schroeder comes to mind as an active LDS convert.

Gordon Jump was very active as well.

Any others, including actresses?

I know a lot of people will laugh, but my cousin served his mission in Colombia and Shakiras father is a branch president down there. he has pictures with her mom and dad. She was raised LDS but was never baptized.

Also in terms of sports a lot of people dont know Jeff Kent is LDS, Roy Halladay is LDS.

Actors: I just found out Wilford Brimley was LDS, that shocked me

Eliza Dushku was raised LDS.

Hoss from Bonanza was LDS too.

Katherine Hegl is LDS, I don't believe she is active anymore.

Ryan Gosling was raised LDS.

Kelly Packard is LDS. I grew up in the same stake as her. She was married in the temple.

Saw Rick Schroeder on Howard Stern. I was pretty impressed with him, other than the fact that he was on Stern. He handled some really condescending questions well and didn't get flustered by Howard at all. A lot of the interview was about being Mormon.

Oh yeah, Steve Martin is LDS too.

Tobias: No, it never does. I mean, these people somehow delude themselves into thinking it might, but...but it might work for us.

Eliza Dushku

Is it true you were raised in the Mormon faith?
I kind of fell out of Mormonism at a young age. My brothers and I were not completely rebellious, but I remember driving to church in the minivan on Sunday--church is three hours long if you're Mormon--we would stop at a red light, throw open the slider [door] and run for the hills. My mother would be screaming!

My favorite famous mormon was more infamous than famous...D.B. Cooper.

Jewel was born in Payson, and moved to Alaska when she was 1 or 2. Her dad went to BYU, and later apostatized after getting caught up in anti literature.

In a VH-1 documentary, they interviewed her brothers, who said Jewel learned to sing and play guitar when her family would get together once a week to share their talents. "We called it Family Home Evening." I have it on VHS.
